Test Taking Tips

Tests are the most important thing students need to focus on because lets face it most classes only give you 3-4 tests all semester so you have to make sure you do well on all of them. Students always panic but they should really be confident because if they studied what they were suppose to then there should be no problems. The best defense is to eliminate all anxiety factors and build confidence.

Here are some tips to build your confidence so that you will not panic come test time –

  1. Take a power nap - taking a quick nap will help increase your energy and clear your mind. Set the alarm so that you sleep for 30 minutes because any longer may make you not want to get up!

  2. The first day of class you should build your study schedule around all test dates for every class

  3. Set your alarm for 15 minutes early so that you are not rushed to get to the exam

  4. Start studying in small increments so that you do not overwhelm yourself and it will avoid any panic attacks

  5. Ask the professor what will be covered on the test and ask any questions that you are unsure of

  6. Talk to other classmates to collaborate .. sometimes others pick up on details that you do not

  7. Eat before the test, bring a drink, go to the bathroom, and make sure you are well rested so that you can focus on the test

  8. Show up 15 minutes before the test to get settled and ask the professor any last minute questions

  9. Bring a jacket in case the room is cold… you want to be settled not irritable

  10. Read all directions slowly and carefully

  11. Do final check before handing your test in to make sure you didn’t make any dumb mistakes or miss anything

Multiple Choice Test Tips

Multiple choice test can sometimes be more confusing than helpful. Here are some tips that will help you out.

  1. Look at all the answers before deciding on your choice

  2. In “all of the above” choices – see if two answers are correct, if so then all of the above should be the answer

  3. The choice with the most information is often the answer

  4. Cross out answers you know are not right

  5. After you read the ? think of the answer before you look at the choices
