Organization for Success

Getting through college unorganized can add an unnecessary stress to an already stress prone environment. A few key organizational rules can increase your productivity and keep your sanity!

Always have a day planner or PDA. If you have a planner with all of the key dates in it then you can adequately plan your work, school and family schedule. As soon as the professor hands out the syllabus on the first day of class you should immediately write down all of your assignment and test dates. If not you will forget them!

Every morning you should check you day planner and review what you have going on within the next 2-3 days so that it is fresh in your mind.

Another important organizational tool is to always keep things in the same place. Always organize your book back to keep certain items in certain pockets. Keep your books and assignments in the same place when you go home. Take a trip to office max and buy binders, tabs, and all the materials that you need to be organized.

At the beginning of each semester set your binders up and coordinate them with the syllabus. Every time a professor hands out papers make sure they are filed away in the proper class of your binder.

In keeping all of your things organized you will help prevent forgetfulness for two reasons:

1. Your day planner will have all of your important dates listed, and...

2. You will know when any of your things are out of place so you will be less likely to forget assignments or lose important material.

Remember if you take a small amount of time to stay organized you will save yourself a lot of time and aggregation down the road.
